Born Richard Wagstaff Clark, Dick Clark is often called the world’s oldest teenager. He began his career in 1945 working in the mailroom of WRUN-TV in Utica, NY and eventually was promoted to weatherman and eventually news anchor. When BANDSTAND was picked up by ABC in 1957, Clark changed the name to AMERICAN BANDSTAND and introduced African-American music artists to TV audiences for the first time. In 1990, he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame and in 1993 Clark was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Having hosted almost every incarnation of Pyramid (pre-Osmond) from $20k – 100k, Dick Clark has earned a record 10 Daytime Emmy nominations…and that’s only the OTHER HALF.
