Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Original Host Regis Philbin

Only child, Regis Francis Xavier Philbin, earned a sociology degree from Notre Dame University in Indiana. Reege began as a stagehand on KCOP-TV in Los Angeles and then host of A.M. Los Angeles. After working on THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW, he appeared in Woody Allen’s EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK. When his NYC-based morning talk show became nationally syndicated with Kathie Lee Gifford in 1987, Regis finally reached the top but topped himself again after going solo (pre-Ripa) resulting in an Emmy, while saving ABC twice with MILLIONAIRE and later SUPER MILLIONAIRE. In between providing pal David Letterman with semi-regular LATE SHOW stunts, Regis Philbin tours clubs throughout the U.S. with a lounge act alongside ALL MY CHILDREN star, Susan “Erica” Lucci.
