65 Episode Second Season To Put Winning Within Reach With Extra “Power Chip” In $25,000 Jackpot Round


 
 
(Santa Monica, CA)- Wednesday, February 18, 2009GSN announced today that the second season of the popular original series CATCH 21™ hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro will premiere on Monday, April 6 and air weekdays at 6:30PM/5:30PM C following THE NEWLYWED GAME. With a tall order of 65 episodes, the new season, created by Executive Producer Merrill Heatter and executive produced by Scott Sternberg, will feature an all-new look and feel as well as the addition of an extra “power chip” in the jackpot round that puts winning within reach for all players.

 
 
Fans of the show can also extend the CATCH 21 experience into their homes every day by playing the CATCH 21 online cash game, available at GSN.com/CATCH21. Like the TV show, the online game challenges players to speed through a deck of cards as they try to build as many 21’s as possible within the designated time limit.

 
 
“We’re excited to bring this high-energy show back to viewers with the same great host and team of producers, but with more opportunity for big-time winners and a whole new look that invites the audience to join in on the fun,” said Kelly Goode, GSN Senior Vice President of Programming. “One of the great things about this program is that fans of the show that want to get in on the action either to compete for money like the show contestants or just to play for fun, can go online at any time.”

 
 
Host Alfonso Ribeiro (“The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and “GSN Live”) and Dealer Mikki Padilla (“Malcolm in the Middle” and “Two and a Half Men”) will introduce viewers to a totally redesigned set for CATCH 21: Season Two complete with a giant projector screen as its new centerpiece and an even larger, more engaged studio audience.

This season will continue to build on the show’s fast-paced game play, with Alfonso quizzing contestants three at a time as they compete to win playing cards, while trying to build the closest hand to 21. Following three elimination rounds, the last player standing attempts to build 21 from a larger-than-life deck for a shot at up to $25,000. This season, CATCH 21 is increasing contestants’ chances of winning the $25,000 jackpot by giving them an extra “power chip” (chips are collected for each round won) to discard unwanted cards in the final round.  

 
 
CATCH 21: Season Two is produced by industry veterans Merrill Heatter and Scott Sternberg of Scott Sternberg Productions. Heatter created and produced iconic game shows such as “The Hollywood Squares,” along with “High Rollers,” “Gambit” and more than 30 other television series. Sternberg’s game show credits include “Rock and Roll Jeopardy,” two seasons of “That’s The Question” for GSN, “The Singing Office” and “The Gong Show.”

 
 
In addition to the weekday airings at 6:30PM/5:30PM C, CATCH 21: Season Two will also air encore episodes weekdays at 10:30PM/9:30PM C and weekends at 4:30PM/3:30PM C following encore episodes of THE NEWLYWED GAME weekdays at 10:00PM/9:00PM C and weekends at 4:00PM/3:00PM C.
